Review of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) by Tiffany B — 12 Oct 2009
An eminently enjoyable adventure film, M&C offers an intriguing blend of action and character development that stands out among most similar fare. Instead of going for the cheap laugh or the easy (and unbelievable) thrill, the film primarily employs quieter scenes of men telling stories, making music, and sailing the ship to connect narrative threads and increase knowledge of characters.
I still really like this film now several years since its release. That speaks to its good quality, I think.
