Review of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) by Tori S — 08 Aug 2010
6.9/10 --.
Well made and suitably epic, "Master and Commander" is the kind of historical adventure barely made anymore. That is, there's no Kraken. What's odd is that had this movie actually had a Kraken, I might have liked it better for some inconceivably shallow reason. Instead it had Russell Crowe expertly personifying his role as commander of a British warship. This alone is no doubt better then a Kraken. Still, the middle act is a bit saggy, and there's almost no character arc to speak of. Would a Kraken have remedied this in any meaningful way? Probably not. Do I suddenly want to re-watch the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy? Kinda yeah.
