Review of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) by Mya G — 23 May 2009
While it bears only a passing resemblance to the books by Patrick O'Brien, this movie nonetheless presents one of the most comprehensive and detailed depictions of Napoleonic-era naval warfare. The somewhat ham-handed attempts to create conflict between Aubrey and Maturin are unnecessary and hurt the pacing, but for the most part it is an engaging and visually-stunning seafaring adventure.
