Review of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) by Godwin F — 11 Jun 2009
I couldn't give an objective review of this movie if I tried. I own it, I love it, I watch it at least once a month, and I still want to crawl inside the world it creates and live there. The technical team that created the material environment of this film deserved all the awards that they could carry home. The glimpses of everyday life on board a tallship never cease to be fascinating, and each and every viewing reveals another missed detail. All the cast are exceptional, not least Crowe and Bettany, who create real characters of true warmth, integrity and charisma.
If I ever won the lottery I would build myself an IMAX screen just so I could watch this movie on it all day. Brilliant.
