Review of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) by Tom C — 16 Nov 2009
One of my favorite movies of all time. For me, it had the right mix of action to character development. You never feel bored with it. It gave an authentic feel to life on a Royal Navy vessel during the time period of the Napoleanic war.
For me the real star of this flick was Paul Bettany. Bettany shined as he portrayed Dr. Stephen Maturin, the soft spoken, intelligent and highly unconventional surgeon / botanist of the HMS Surprise, who felt wholly repressed in his role as doctor on the ship.
You truly felt that need for him to go to the Galapagos! The film flowed and never lulled. If you are a fan of dramatic period pieces or war films, this is a must!
