Review of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) by Deeni D — 01 Jan 2010
Peter Weir and Russell Crowe both put much effort and time into the authenticity of this particular story, which is very admirable. Secondly, we never see the French sailors up close until the final standoff, therefore we are not given a chance to feel sympathy for them, as they remain strangers to us through the entire film.
Watching this makes me wish that Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer could have taken the Pirates' trilogy more seriously, for this film contains more intense, hard-pressed action than all three Pirates' films put together (in my opinion of course).
How far are men willing to go to protect their homeland?
