Review of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) by Antony G — 10 Apr 2012
A good historical action drama starring Russell Crowe & Paul Bettany. Good battle scenes set at sea & no reliance on CGI which is a refreshing change with an insight to life at sea. Maybe a little on the long side with a few moments of dullness & not much action on screen but maybe it can be overlooked as you get a chance to look at each main character's personality & relationships with their fellow crewman.
Crowe is in command of HMS Surprise & is under orders to seek & destroy a French naval ship, The Acheron. But after a confrontation with the far superior French battle ship, which leaves his ship severely damaged, he embarks on a mission to finish the job.
