Review of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) by Ricardo Martín P — 24 Sep 2013
I saw the movie first; then I happened to stumble across the first book of the Aubrey-Maturin series. After I finished reading it, I realised how truly monumental was the effort that the writer/director had made.
Although the story of the movie is an original idea, you can recognise the characters from the book instantly, specially Jack Aubrey. Russel Crowe´s performance is even bigger if you have read the book; he manages to capture the essence of Cpt.
Aubrey incredibly. This movie just had the terrible bad luck of being paired with The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King at the Oscars.
