Review of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) by Peter A — 17 Sep 2013
Master & Commander is more of a series of vignettes or episodes crafted together to make one movie. Many movies fail at stitching together an episodic structure, but M&C succeeds beautifully. The episodes blend with the story's overall purpose of Cap't.
Jack Aubrey's mission to nail a faster, more powerful French ship. We get high adventure, drama, a little humor and good performances from the cast. I liked Russell Crowe as Aubrey even if he was pretty much Maximus on the high seas.
And that's okay. Jack and Maximus make for good characters who you'd follow to the ends of the earth.
