Review of Masked and Anonymous (2003) by Sheila M — 25 May 2006
Really, I thought it was a joke, but I really liked it! It's a Bob Dylan movie and it seemed cheaply inspired by a Jack Kerouac novel or something. There were a million people in it; Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Penelope Cruz, Luke Wilson and a ton of cameos: Christian Slater, Chris Penn, Mickey Rourke, Cheech Marin, Val Kilmer, Ed Harris and Giovanni Ribisi.
Everyone was so awesome. I never expect movies to be good when they have singers trying to be actors, and this wasn't great, but it wasn't no Gunslinger's Revenge, either (the worst movie I have ever seen starring David Bowie).
It has a 5.0 rating, but personally I still liked it a lot. I love that all of those people only did it for one reason: Bob Dylan. :D It is the only reason I even rented the damned thing. But all those people were fantastic! I absolutely loved the little philosophical speaches they gave (the movie is kind of about politics, war and life), my favourites were definitely by Val (aw, him and his bunny!) and Giovanni.
And I must say for once I didn't hate Christian Slater, but actually liked him. And I only love Mickey and Ed more and more every time I see them in something, they amaze me! Oh and the covers of Bob's songs that were made Mexican and Indian? They were awesome! Along with the other remixes and Bob's own versions as well.
I actually kind of really want to own that movie now.
