Review of Masked and Anonymous (2003) by Andrew G — 05 Feb 2008
The only for sure thing about this movie is that Bob Dylan stars in it, as the sauntering Dylan-esque character Jack Fate, who meanders through the sets, spouting words of heady wisdom as though he was quoting verses from the Old Testament.
Did anyone ask him if he really wanted to even be in this film? Other than that, I don't think this film has much to offer or really say about anything. Way too open-ended, with ambiguous characters who have no motive to be there other than to share in one cathartic scene after another with Dylan.
The results are dumbfounding, as the only person Dylan has any chemistry with is himself and his band. The best thing has to be the sound effects, which feature distant rattling machine guns and helicopters zooming overhead.
Nice touch. Must be rabbit season. Move along...
