Review of M*A*S*H (1970) by Torch C — 08 Jul 2008
It's Korea as a parable for Vietnam in this epic and sadly funny flick, of a tone much darker than comedy. Robert Altman directs the cast of then known stars in this war drama with some jokes here and there.
Could be the first movie to define "black comedy", if one takes the cynicism as humor. Great story though. Not for the kiddies. The biggest hit TV series of all time MASH, was brought from this movie, and it lasted 13 seasons, 11 years longer than the Korean War, but about the same as Vietnam, which it spoofs.
Naturally this idea confused the heck out of young teens at the time, but they never were told. Ha. Not really for young teens either.
