M*A*S*H is a great movie because it doesn't try to be. It's also really, really, really damn funny for the reason that it doesn't try too hard to be funny. A moment for the comedy time capsule would be when the M*A*S*H team has to cheat in order to beat the other team, but they will not abandon their medicinal protocol to do so.
Everything in the movie works not because we agree with everything the crew does but because they enjoy doing it. Even after 40 years, M*A*S*H is still a comedy classic.
