Review of M*A*S*H (1970) by David F — 04 Jul 2012
This famous movie, directed by Robert Altman, about an army hospital in the Korean war, didnâ(TM)t click with me. The notable Altman touches-overlapping dialogue, meandering story line, large ensemble cast-are all here but donâ(TM)t add up to more than the sum of its parts.
The changes in tone from jokey army base pranks to gruesome, bloody surgery back to prank-infused base football game just gave me emotional whiplash. I suppose for some this will accurately sum up the lived experience of something like this but I would have liked a little bit more structure or something else to hold it all together.
