Review of M*A*S*H (1970) by Tony's F — 24 May 2011

To Me, this film is way to far fetched and all over the place. M.A.S.H is hailed as one of the best comedies in the history of cinema, but if so why didnt I laugh?. This film is full of characters with silly names, and Set-Pieces that never add up with anything. It's as if the film makers had dozens of ideas and just shoved them all together to make one film, I personally dont think it works and just dont find this funny one bit. More just annoying and repetitive than anything else.

The film is set at a Mobile Surgical Hospital during the Korean World War. We focus on a group of Army surgeons who are busy at work fixing wounded Soldiers, some soldiers are really hurt, we see blood squirting all over the place, and sadly some Soldiers die. Well you cant expect Surgeons to save everyone in the war can you?. Just like any surgeon or doctor that live their life trying to save lives, it can get quite depressing sometimes especially when you loose a patient.

These Surgeons seem like normal people when they are fixing the wounded, but when they clock-out of work thats when the "Fun" begins. They party hard, get drunk every night, play pranks on thier friends and pritty much just do anything to take their minds of the depressing day to day job they have.

Even tho there are one or two good ideas in the movie, I still feel that this film is just pointless. There is no real plot at all just alot of "happenings". Wake up in the morning, fix a few soldiers, loose a few soldiers, clock-out of work and than do the same things that you did the night before. There are alot of characters in this film but none of them are memeroable, well except for one lady known as "Hot Lips" and thats because she gets harrased by the male surgeons all throughout this movie. Maybe that's funny but I didnt laugh. The only time I remember laughing is a scene when the Army Surgeons are waiting for a helicopter to land, they can hear it coming but cant see it and that's due to them looking in the wrong direction.

M.A.S.H is full of boring, pointless coverstaions and repetitive jokes that are never funny. You have a long and boring Football scene at the end of the film, where I believe its a football match between the Army Surgeons and the soliders. I didnt time how long the Football scenes went for but it felt very long, I guess just to kill time?. In my opinion M.A.S.H is an un-funny comedy with dozens of randoms ideas, that didnt work for me. When the credits rolled this is exactly what I said, "What the hell is this shit".
