Review of Masculin Féminin (1966) by Meg P — 12 Jul 2010
Not sure quite how I feel about this film. I know the intelligent geeky cinema side of me should be really impressed and be in love with this film, but all signs are pointing to this just being ok. I really liked the director's weird use of sound and his editing of characters was pretty cool.
The camera stayed on a character rather than cutting back and forth between characters, so you could see more of a character how they reacted in their silences and responded to other characters. I also was not pleased with the use of white subtitles.
Being a black and white film, there were quite a few scenes in which the subtitles were completely whited out by the actual film. Overall this was an ok film for me. Didn't love it, didn't hate it.
