Review of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994) by Willem W — 31 Oct 2007
Ponderous, leaden adaptation that tries to be highbrow in a film about a guy who sews together body parts and brings them to life. DeNiro would have been much better as the Doctor. The shots of the usually enjoyable Branaugh flitting about his laboratory shirtless are enough to drive one into hysterical blindness.
Truth told, the book is no great shakes either, that's why most films aren't faithful to it. Every moment of this film is so dreadfully overwrought that one feel bludgeoned by the end.
