Review of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994) by Edgar C — 10 Nov 2012
Branagh's royal taste for the Romantic became his own nemesis this time. Shelley's novel should not be a comparison standard; or better said, a novel should never be the comparison standard for a film. The definition of "adaptation" already implies between lines that it is a biased perspective, not necessarily incorrect. Improper, you may argue? Yes. It is a letdown in a couple of aspects, but this is a De Niro face you'll never get another chance of looking at.
