Review of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994) by Parker R — 06 Sep 2013
Adapting Frankenstein requires a certain level of visual effects. This movie cheaped out on several of those. Combine that with the rushed feel of the film and several melodramatic moments, and Frankenstein fizzles.
However, DeNiro's monster makeup is well done. He and Branagh also give decent performances (despite some bad moments), and the essential soul of Shelley's story is intact. So for me, it's about a 50/50 movie.
