Review of Mary Queen of Scots (2018) by K O — 02 Jan 2019
I'm a big fan of the Tudor dynasty, so it hurts to see Good Queen Bess as a jealous half-wit. It's also hard to follow Mary bounce in and out of power. She marries Darnley, a gorgeous power-hungry rascal, which aggravates her power-hungry brother, James, and the clergy, and the people, then she flees to Elizabeth's England, where she can scheme under house arrest.
The acting is spectacular, the two Queens are fierce, and I would have married Lord Darnley too. Elizabeth's Dudley, however, was played too carefully. He was every bit as much of a rascal as Darnley.
