Review of Mary Queen of Scots (2018) by Darren M — 20 Dec 2018
Worth it for the brilliant Jack Lowden whom they made look better than ever, and for the mega talent James MacArdle. And for Margot, who is terrific, except has the smallest role. The story is inaccurate and hard to follow.
Historical inaccuracies abound. Sherlock's Gemma Chan as the gueen's assistant? She's Asian. Henry was queer or bi? Mary and Elisabeth met in person? Music lame overall. The film suffers from lack of focus and imagination.
The Favourite puts it to shame in every department.
