Review of Mary Poppins Returns (2018) by Brad H — 02 Jan 2019
Forgettable songs Drag down what could have been a memorable film. The cast is talented, the actors are amazing, the sets are visually stunning. Every piece fits for a good film, but good songs are noticeably absent.
During each song I found myself sighing and waiting for it to wrap up while hoping to enjoy the next song to come my way. The plot is interesting and the dialogue is good. Itï¿ 1/2(TM)s a shame. I think they needed more time to flush out some songs.
The best song of the film is ï¿ 1/2where lost things go.ï¿ 1/2Â? Rather than humming or singing catchy lyrics after the film, I believe all of its songs went to the part of my brain where lost things go.
A day later, I found myself humming greatest showman lyrics and remembering Laland. I still think Lin-Manuel is talented and I love his Hamilton music and his work for Moana, but not every song can be stellar.
