Review of Mary Poppins Returns (2018) by Shanteral F — 02 Jan 2019
A decent sequel to the original, but does not always quite catch the magic of its predecessor. Emily Blunt offers a solid reiteration of the iconic character, but the focus is not in her as the children are standouts and share the screen time.
Jack is another standout and arguably the greatest character in the movie. The rest of the cast and characters are decent enough, with the exception of Michael. The plot is basic and nothing memorable, with a few original and magical moments spread throughout.
The effects were also very questionable at times, as there many sequences that rely heavily on green screen and it is very noticeable. This wasnï¿ 1/2(TM)t the biggest concern however, as CGI is needed to create the creative moments.
Overall, the film is an enjoyable family experience, but an average movie and nowhere near as magical as the original.
