Review of Mary Poppins Returns (2018) by Chad S — 15 Jan 2019
Emily Blunt gives a career best performance in this film. While director Rob Marshall definitely tries too hard to make the film feel like a vintage one, the music and dance numbers stand out in a way that few musicals do.
Besides that though, there's just enough joy and fun moments to get through, dragged down by a poor script and a resolution that basically makes the character of Mary Poppins unimportant in her own movie.
