Review of Mary Poppins Returns (2018) by Beecee — 27 Dec 2018
Emily Blunt does a good job of portraying Mary Poppins, and Lin-Manuel Miranda is charming. There are perhaps around three good songs. And it is a treat to see Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury. However, the plot is a mess.
Both the death of the mother and the impending home foreclosure are too much darkness to deal with. They could totally do without the foreclosure subplot, including the absurd effort to change the time on Big Ben.
Colin Firth is saddled with playing a one dimensional villain.
