Review of Mary Poppins Returns (2018) by Steven W — 27 Dec 2018
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Disney has outdone themselves. I loved Mary Poppins as a kid, and have continued to into adulthood. One of the problems with sequels this far apart is that they often lose the heart and soul of the original movie franchise. Not so in this case. Disney stays true to Travers' tale as well as true to the style of the original and somehow far beyond his grave a hint of Walt is contained within. Emily Blunt is not just a good Mary Poppins, she IS Mary Poppins in every sense. From her accent to her singing, to her clever wit and quick quips, the performance is spot on to the point of Oscar worthiness. Disney reminisces all the wonder and imagination of the original with new spins on live action mixed with animation, managing to include both new and old into a solid 2 hours of fun, singing, dancing, laughing, emotion, and pure entertainment. Do the kid in you a favor. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!
