Review of Mary Poppins Returns (2018) by Wes M — 29 Dec 2018
My entire family, from five to sixty-two, thoroughly enjoyed it! It is bright and buoyant, while dealing with themes of loss, resilience and childhood wonder. Emily Blunt is very much in the mold of the literary version of Mary Poppins and I believe P.
L.Travers would approve. It walks the fine line of referencing the original film while bringing in more of the feel of the novels. The costumes are colorful and wonderfully creative, particularly in the fantasy scenes.
In their recent live action remakes, Disney has assembled top notch talent in costuming and art direction. We all left smiling and feeling hopeful.
