I entered the theatre a bit skeptical that Mary Poppins would be any good. I feel Disney has been a bit ham-fisted when it comes to modernizing their classic properties. But, I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. I chalk it up to the sincerity of the actors and the careful application of the old animation style. I also appreciated that while there were certainly a lot of songs, it never came across as a sprint from one to the next (a problem most Disney musicals have, in my opinion).
The cast and crew have much to be proud of on this one. It was absolutely delightful!
