Review of Mary Poppins Returns (2018) by Eamonn O — 28 Dec 2018
A poor re-make masquerading as a continuation story. Story line is boring, which the music attempts to fix but doesn't achieve the job. Dialogue is cheesy, paired with acting that is barely tolerable.
Use of Mary's magic is over the top and often unnecessary to advancing the plot. Lin Manuel Miranda's cringe-worthy accent made him incredibly difficult to watch throughout. Emily Blunt does a good job of capturing the empathy and strict nature of Mary Poppins, but she alone couldn't save this film.
If you cherish the original, you'll surely be disappointed.
