This movie is a shadow of the original - literally. Emily Blunt is very good but the film is weighed down by forgettable music, a thin plot and two-dimensional characters. The plot actually shadows the original movie in terms of plot and scenes - for example there's animated dancing penguins again.
Musically, the movie fails miserably with not one of the songs coming close to those in the original movie. Dick Van Dyke steals the show at the end but cameos by Meryl Streep and Angela Lansbury seemed gratuitous.
Technically the show is good but it's a shame to have all that talent and expertise weighed down by a wooden plot and tuneless music.
