I actually didn't really like Mary under the surface. Michael seemed too young to be father of three unless he started when he was 13. His moustache, a desperate attempt to make him look older, made him more of an 'Enfield scouser'.
The older boy actor could easily have signed a multi deal to do this and omen 5 Poppins here, more posh than proper. The character never really had that warmth hid.
