Review of Mary Poppins Returns (2018) by Nathaniel R — 23 Dec 2018
This film reconnects a new audience to an old way of cinema in fantastic fashion, the magic of classic Disney was on point and spot on . The music was great and enjoyable for adults and kids a like.
A couple of sticking points, Colin Firths role felt forced and rigid at times he looked uncomfortable on screen as an antagonist. Emily Blunt was mostly excellent as Mary Poppins but was always going to be shadowed by Julie Andrews. However what really was her only negative part of the performance If to be picky was the awful switch of accent from 1920s nanny to almost little Mo from EastEnders was cringe worthy.
All in all this is an excellent film and really has songs you can sing to.
Furthermore how great to see Dick Van Dyke back on screen!
