Review of Mary Poppins Returns (2018) by Jenny L — 25 Dec 2018
Mary Poppins Returns is the longest sequel ever developed in history. After 54 years this movie is reincarnated with Emily Blunt playing Poppins. Blunt was endorsed by Andrews to reprise her character.
The script was enticing and long and sad. I couldnâ(TM)t hold back my tears praying for the Banks family, having to lose their mother, their house and trying to get by within their means. The songs from the original were not part of the this movie which was disappointing, but the new songs were not memorable.
The hand drawn animated scenes and characters were amazing, smooth and one of a kind. Meryl Streepâ(TM)s scene was not necessary, it was side story that would have saved fifteen minutes of screen time off of a movie that ran over two hours long.
Lin-Manuel Miranda added another dimension and he portrayed Dick Van Dykeâ(TM)s leery group to life with great choreography. It was great seeing Lansbury in a cameo and overall it was a wonderful movie.
Definitely add this to your library.
