Review of Mary Poppins (1964) by James K — 03 Dec 2010
Practically perfect in everyway indeed! I did not expect a musical in which the majority of the film showed a vigorously dancing man and a singing nanncy who flew in on the job and left blown away by the wind to be so entertaining and mesmerizing.
The special effects must have been sensational in the 1960s and to me in the 21st century still appealling. I was like ... supercalifraglisticexpialidocious!! Julie Andrews received an Oscar for her acting in Mary Poppins and even then she was more well-known for her acting in the movie she acted in year following Mary Poppins' success (ie Sound of Music). Acting or not, I have to say she was refreshingly charming as Mary Poppins. If you only wanted to watch one musical movie, this has to be it as the tune was so catchy you would find yourself singing along or alone or in company long after watching the movie.
