Review of Mary Poppins (1964) by Matthew D — 21 Feb 2013

Movie Matt here with Mary Poppins, considered to be one of Disney's finest films and one of the last films to be released while he was alive. The film follows a magic nanny who arrives to work for a cold & disenchanted banker's unhappy family in the traditional Disney formula.

The film was also highly innovative at the time (this was released in 1964) to blend live-action and animation and needless to say, it's done really well to the point where you can't tell it's on a green screen.

The songs really advance the story & two of them became my favorite songs in the whole film: Step In Time (which I'm listening to as I type this) & Feed The Birds for its' haunting song & score that punctuates it.

The reason for the 5-star rating is because of the story & message because this was a first time they had a parent disengaged from his family life & learns through the events of the film that his children's childhood will come & go in an instant.

I can safely say that this film is like Mary Poppins. "Practically Perfect in every way".
