Review of Mary Poppins (1964) by Mary R — 09 Dec 2017
An exquisite extravaganza of magic, music, mayhem and Mary Poppins---this movie is practically perfect in every way! Set in Edwardian England, this tale of the umbrella-flying nanny brings the P.L. Travers book to life in a combination of real life and cartoon captivating creative drama.
All of the acting is terrific, but Julie Andrews is absolutely stunning in the lead role. The many famous songs have become part of the historical record of important movie musicals. The family and life lessons taught to the children by Mary Poppins have relevance for all ages and all times.
We could all wish to travel to the beautiful and splendid world of Mary Poppins. This movie is my childhood favorite!
