Review of Mary Poppins (1964) by Brayden J — 16 Dec 2014
I never really did watch Mary Poppins all the way through when I was young until I watched Saving Mr. Banks. After watching it, I really wanted to watch it and was shocked that I didn't watch it early on.
Mary Poppins is one of the best live-action Disney movies I have ever seen, if not, the best. The story is quite good, the songs, are very memorable and people still sing them to this day. The acting is terrific, the kids were great, and Julie Andrews is fantastic.
Now for Dick Van Dyke, everybody knows that the accent he's saying is bad, but I'm going to forgive it for the fact that he still gave a wonderful performance with the energy he gave from the dance scenes.
The animation are impressive, the effects in live-action are amazing, and the dance scenes are really good. It's really shot well, the characters are memorable, and I didn't really find a flaw in this.
P.L Travers didn't like this which I didn't understand why until I saw Saving Mr. Banks and can see why from her point of view. I think that if it's done right, it's done right and it felt like it respects the source material even though I never read it.
