Review of Mary and Max (2009) by Serena A — 10 Jul 2011
An ode to the transformational power of friendship. Max and Mary are an unlikely pair of pen pals. Mary is an 8 year girl living in Australia and Max is a middle aged man living in Manhattan suffering from Asperger's. Their letters showed them that someone else cared. At a dark moment in Mary's life, Max saves her life through his correspondence.
This movie is dark and depressing, but heartwarming at the same time. You fall in love with these characters and see the universal human condition that resides in all of us.
