Review of Mary and Max (2009) by Ruhan R — 25 Jul 2011
Mary and Max was the best animated feature that I have seen in a while. Although the characters were clay and disfigured, it was a deeply humanistic story with a tragic flavour. The two main characters were simple yet deep, each with their own struggles & objectives, disappointments and small victories.
Adam Elliot composed a wonderful script with a plot that follows the lives of both characters as they loosely weave together. The concept art in this film was another victory. I absolutely loved the colour schemes of the two cities and how Elliot differentiated them through their design.
The film was moving with it's depressing events and character struggles. Overall a great animated feature.
