Review of Mary and Max (2009) by Kyle T — 06 Jan 2012
I have yet to see a movie, let alone an animation go through such tough subject matter as well as it was. It was very dark, often unsettling, but at the same time, really, REALLY funny. I was laughing constantly, but several of the moments were both heart-touching and heart-breaking, suspenseful, heavily dramatic, extremely artistic, beautiful, and honestly, one of the best films and animations I've ever seen.
The characters are fantastic, some of the best in all animated film history, and it of course helps that the story was based off of a true story, but the film was handled so beautifully. Like I said, really REALLY dark, but so well-handled that I can sing nothing but praises about it.
If you love animation, you will love this movie. Trust me, you'll thank me that you gave it a watch.
