Review of Mary and Max (2009) by Sean Michael S — 21 Jan 2012
Not very many films can be completely dismal and yet be fantastically endearing. Mary and Max is a visually striking narrative with a immensely dark plot. Almost every conceivable calamity occurs to each protagonist which drives the viewer to continue watching in sincere hope that a happy ending will appear.
The animation and creativity with characters adds to the well needed humor and raises the level of human-like emoting that assists building a connection with the viewer. Overall a beautiful story, a perfectly executed score, and possibly one of the most bittersweet tear jerking endings in film history.
