Review of Mary and Max (2009) by Mike M — 25 Nov 2012
I absolutely LOVED this movie! Anyone with a connection to Asperger's syndrome would appreciate this, as would anyone who has ever been lonely, teased, isolated, depressed, had self-esteem issues, or had a long-distance pen-pal / friend who they shared their confidences with.
This was an incredibly touching, sweet story about an unlikely friendship between a lonely over-weight, 8 year old girl in Australia and a lonely, over-weight, 44-year old man with Asperger's in New York.
It's not all bleak - Much of it is REALLY funny! Laugh-out-loud funny at times, and tears-streaming-down-the-face poignant at other times. I will remember and think about this movie for a very long time to come.
It's one of those stories that gives you a fresh new perspective on life and makes you really appreciate what you've got. I want everyone to see it! Give it a try - I HIGHLY recommend it.
