Review of Martyrs (2008) by Kristin R — 07 Jun 2010
Martyrs is more than just a horror film, frankly calling it a horror film is an injustice, but it is indeed horrific and transcends the banality that often belittles the genre. It is disturbing, controversial, thought-provoking, and seeks to find enlightenment among the muck and mire of its dark nature.
To dissect the film is something I will leave to others as I feel it will ruin the impact and point of the film. Martyrs themes of suffering and abuse can be very hard to watch at times given there vivid and graphic nature, but as Anna and Lucie must endour so must the viewer for there must be a "witness".
