Review of Martyrs (2008) by Newt C — 20 Jun 2011
There comes a time when one has to make a stand against outlandish horror movies, and this might be my time. It's almost two different films rolled into one. The first hour is actually extremely interesting, and a reasonably enjoyable revenge thriller.
The final half an hour is a vile, difficult to watch mess. And do you know what the most grating thing about it was? They actually attempted to portray the brutal torture of a young woman as being for the good of the world.
It's sickening, it's appalling, it's shameful. It has no moral backbone. There are ways of creating refreshing new horror films without having to resort to this.
