Review of Martyrs (2008) by Thomas H — 23 May 2013

I expected this to be really good and scary just because it's a foreign movie and I was right. And I'll have to say this movie is one that actually scared me (and scarred me) in a very long time.

And I'm not easily scared. There's only two things that made this me give this movie 4.5 stars instead of 5. One reason is because it's spoken in French and has subtitles, and I wasn't in the mood for subtitles that night.

And the other reason is that it doesn't really make any sense at the beginning. Me and my cousin had no idea what was going on for about the first 30 - 45 minutes. Except for a few things, the story does start to make sense as you watch it.

Now for the things that shocked me. This movie was the most brutal, insane, and messed-up movie I've ever seen. In a few scenes near the end, a man beats up a girl that's smaller than him several times.

Some scenes are bloody and the whole movie is scary and twisted. Now I know why my friends said they were never watching this movie ever again. I don't recommend this movie to people that are easily disturbed, but if you're looking for a messed-up and brutally scary movie, this is the one for you.
