Review of Martyrs (2008) by Elizabeth H — 22 Sep 2013
Tough, gruesome and uncompromising - and the cause celebre of the Cannes Film Festival in 2008. I was left suitably disturbed in a way that the French seem quite adept with (see also "Irreversible", "Frontieres" and "Haute Tension" - well, if ye have a strong stomach anyway).
Rumours persist of a 'toned down' Hollywood remake. I imagine that it would miss the point.
