Review of Martyrs (2008) by Craig G — 20 Jul 2011
If you are going to listen to a decent review of this movie then by pass all the ones by so called 'critics' that says that this is torture porn. This is a well planned out, thought provoking and original movie that, although pretty violent, sets the bench mark for modern day movie making. Every scene has a meaning and is a little building block to the final sequence which both spins the movie around and ties everything together all at the same time.
The film is also terrifying to watch. Laugiers use of top notch directing, FX, sound and his ability to create a claustrophobic atmosphere is second to none. There are at least four or five different changes in direction in the.
Story and this is executed to perfection.
I'm excited for this type movie and the intelligence of the director who has a passion for what he believes in. Witnessing the idiotic crap that gets rammed down our throats from America these days coupled with the taming and molestation of movies so they can obtain a 12 or PG certificate without any thought to the viewer other than how much money can be made is something that has went too far.
