There are a series of avenues you can take as a French director making an extreme horror flick--you can make one movie, or you can make two and senselessly smash them together; you can make it pure exploitation and unobtrusively intense, or you can riddle it with not-compelling mystery; you can make it unpretentious, or you can make it a little more French.
