Review of Martyrs (2008) by Callum S — 25 May 2011
Brutal French horror. This starts as we see a young girl running from a building looking battered and bruised. Next, its years later and we see a normal looking family at breakfast. Suddenly there's a knock on the door, its a young woman with a shotgun and its then all hell breaks loose! This film keeps the tension high by throwing in a few suprises, just when you think you know where its going something unexpected happens and thats what makes this one of the most compelling horrors i've seen for ages.
The concept and idea behind it also is what marks this film out as a bit different, the idea of people becoming martyrs and seeing what lies beyond death. A very good horror film.
