Review of Martyrs (2008) by Ceph J — 07 Dec 2010
I cannot recommend this movie despite it's originality. The movie is gratuitously violent, bloody, and nightmarish. Supposedly, these women are "Martyrs" but they are not volunteering for these experiments and are kidnapped.
The revelation of seeing death is laughable and conveying the sighting in whispers to the program's director is pure camp. For the first 1/2 hour, the movie serves as a suspenseful thriller since the audience is not sure of what is really happening.
I started hating the movie when the cellar is discovered and the torture, not only for Anna but for the viewer. I agree with the writer so said it's like 2 movies in one. The first half gets 2 stars, the second gets none which averages to one star.
